PA PPL Territory Deregulated - Rates Jump 38%+

Pennsylvania's PPL Territory deregulated on January 1st, 2010.  Energy users who did not select a competitive electricity supplier are now paying rates over 38% higher than they did last month.

As the second major wave of PA Electricity Market Deregulation takes effect, users in the PPL territory are the latest to see their rates jump.

Theoretically, competition will help drive innovation and ultimately should reduce the cost of energy compared to what would happen in a non-competitive market. That could take years, and as we wait for competition to take effect, PPL electricity users are being hit by a massive rate increase.

What to do?

For business customers, there are several options.  If your electricity bill is over about $3,000 a month, you can save substantially over the new PPL default rates.

See the Applied Energy web site Energy Procurement section for more details about your options and how Applied Energy can help you get the best possible rates available today.

"I was most impressed with the on-line auction process. The Rittenhouse is delighted to report a 19% savings over the PECO Firm Fixed Price program, which includes 10% hydro-electric power, important to our conservation efforts.
