Electricity Market Deregulation Offers Opportunity and Danger.
Businesses have the opportunity to reduce their rates substantially by
choosing a competitive supplier. Unfortunately many businesses often
ignore the change and pay a premium to their current electricity
supplier.
For Pennsylvania businesses served by MetEd, PECO, PennElec, and
Allegheny/West Penn Power, electricity supply rate caps end in 14 months.
Now is the time for you to become informed
regarding deregulation and how it can work in your favor. The above utilities
have different methods for determining its new supply tariffs. Some utilities
will conduct auctions every six months, others will conduct quarterly auctions,
and one has a single auction to determine the supply tariff rate for certain
types of customers. More detailed information about future rates will be
available in early 2010.
Your business needs unbiased, up-to-date information to understand
what lies ahead. We urge you to take time to further your education and
prepare. Now is not the time for your
business to enter into contractual obligations with a one size fits all program
or enter into a supply contract after receiving a price from a single supplier.
These choices may not be the best decision for your business. Single supplier
programs and aggregations do not use the competitive market to your advantage. Why
limit your choices? Why not position your business most favorably in the market
and make many suppliers vie for your business. Make competition work by gaining
important market intelligence and access to many qualified suppliers that offer
many different supply terms and pricing options. You should not be rushed or
feel compelled to choose any solution until you have the facts and pricing
discovery from many suppliers. | |
