As we alerted you in an earlier newsletter, PJM has announced adjustments to the Transmission Tariff, also known as Network Integration Transmission Service or the NITS charge, and these increases will be included in July billing for all electricity supply contracts, whether you are buying directly from a utility or through a supplier.
The new tariff will result in a significant increase in NITS charges:
- PPL: 47%
- MetEd: 34%
- Penelec: 34%
This is a regulatory charge passed by the PUC and PJM, which is completely out of the control of the utilities and the 3rd party suppliers. For this reason, all electricity supply contracts (including fixed contracts) include a clause for Changes in Law and Regulation that allows regulatory increases to be passed through to the customer.
You should have received a letter from your supplier explaining the NITS increase. If you haven’t received the letter, or if you have any questions, contact your supplier or broker, or give us a call, and we will be more than happy to help.
