Applied Energy works closely with its partners to deliver professional, cost effective, energy-efficiency projects.
US MicroGrid
US MicroGrid’s core competency is in “energy project analytics”. They have both the experience and the proprietary simulation models that allow them to accurately project electricity costs before and after a proposed project. As a result, they are often called upon by technology vendors to estimate energy savings or to validate client estimates. In addition, US MicroGrid owns and operates, or provides turnkey solutions in the following areas:
- High Availability Power Solutions
- Emergency Generation
- Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS)
- IT MaxSM (Specific Package Solutions for Data Centers)
- Power Factor Correction
- Innovative Lighting Solutions (retrofits and new construction)
- Peak Shaving Power Plants
- Power audits
- Transformer Upgrades (allowing clients to take advantage of a lower tariff)
- PJM Load Response Program Administration and Monitoring
- Green Energy (LEED) building technology procurement
US Microgrid employs a structured approach towards project evaluation. This approach allows them to quickly assess the potential of a project without a significant investment of client time.
US MicroGrid was formed to drive the adoption of progressive energy technologies and techniques. The company is continually analyzing new technologies that come onto the market and provides a no-nonsense evaluation from a perspective of financial return and project risk. US MicroGrid will offer to fund any project it recommends.

J3 Energy
Current Bills: For each electric and natural gas account, J3 Energy can determine if the account is on the utility rate/rate option that yields the lowest unit cost for energy. Unfortunately, most utilities no longer offer Most Advantageous Rate Review as a free service to their industrial and commercial customers. And, as utility rate structures undergo dramatic change in response to rising energy prices and Customer Choice initiatives, the potential of an account being billed under the ‘wrong’ rate structure increases.
Historical Bills: J3’s analysts can review a historical snapshot of electric and gas invoices to determine if you have been metered and billed correctly by your utility. The advent of Customer Choice, the implementation of Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems and the migration to new billing platforms by utilities has increased the frequency of utility errors. In addition, J3 will review your existing and prior energy supply contracts for potential contract violations or inappropriate application of utility tariffs. J3 will correct any errors for future billings and fight for refunds of overcharges from prior billing periods.
Future Bills: J3 Energy applies proven strategies which electric and gas utilities have used for years to lower their wholesale cost of energy, to your commercial account. These strategies can include market timing, pipeline storage, physical hedging with on-site electric generating assets or fuel backup, and financial hedging to reduce energy price volatility and realize lower cost long-term energy supply.
J3’s expertise includes detailed computerized analysis of energy bills from many different utilities within the U.S.
